Overview

Unfortunately, due to my NDA, I can’t show the bulk of the work that I did at AlphaMap, so for now, you’ll just have to trust that I actually did quite a lot during my time at this small startup. I was one of the two UX designers on the product team, leading complex design initiatives for new features and tools within the platform. Below are some brief notes about some of the work I did during this time.

  • Spearheaded the design of a self-serve purchase model that drove a significant lift in trial-to-paid conversions, accelerated customer acquisition, and cut costs by replacing manual sales efforts with automated onboarding.
  • Led the design of TenantFinder™, an advanced recommendation engine that improved CRE brokers’ ability to match the right tenants with available properties.
  • Identified and resolved a product information architecture issue by designing a tree map UI element that clearly visualizes the relationship between POIs and Parcels, enhancing user comprehension and navigation.
  • Actively managed and maintained a scalable design system library in Figma, ensuring consistent component usage across the design team and improving efficiency in product development.
  • Prototyped design concepts using generative AI tools, accelerating iteration cycles and reducing user testing turnaround time.
  • Designed upgrade prompts and locked content indicators that balanced usability with conversion goals, boosting upsell click-through rates by 35% and increasing paid feature adoption.
  • Implemented WCAG 2.1+ accessibility standards to expand usability for all customers, ensuring compliance and fostering inclusivity.
  • Analyzed user behavior to identify low onboarding completion rates and utilized user journey mapping to design targeted contextual flows, resulting in an increase in completion
  • Acquired front-end engineering skills to independently implement minor UI updates, reducing dependency on engineering teams and decreasing change turnaround time from days to hours.

What I learned

I’m proud to have been part of the amazing team at AlphaMap. During my three years at this small startup, I learned the value of stepping outside my comfort zone and taking ownership of projects from start to finish. Working at a startup gave me a voice in shaping the product roadmap and defining the scope of design initiatives. I also had the opportunity to wear many hats, which was both challenging and educational. I enjoyed the freedom to conduct my own user research, including interviews and usability tests with real users, and it was incredibly rewarding to see the impact my designs had, not only improving the user experience but also contributing directly to the business’s growth and revenue.
